Since the debut of the FIA WEC in 2012, Nissan has been the dominant engine supplier in the LM P2 class taking the title with Oak Racing (2013), SMP Racing (2014), G-Drive Racing (2015) and Signatech Alpine this year. The French squad missed out on a podium in Shanghai by just five tenths of a second, but fourth place was enough to secure the crown. #Alpineracing Champion du Monde d'Endurance LMP2 @FIAWEC 2016 ! #Alpineisback pic.twitter.com/XOhB54qe9i — Alpine (@alpine_cars) November 6, 2016 #Alpineracing #36 champion du monde d'endurance @FIAWEC 2016 en terminant p4 pic.twitter.com/ykdlcMSsWt — Alpine (@alpine_cars) November 6, 2016 Gustavo Menezes, Nicolas Lapierre and Stéphane Richelmi have won four of the eight FIA WEC rounds so far including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. "This is a great achievement after a brilliant season," said Lapierre. "This is the first race since Silverstone that we have finished outside of the podium, which tells you that we have had a really super year. To win Le Mans and the WEC in one season is really satisfying. The Signatech Alpine team have been mega all season and they deserve a big party tonight." Signatech Alpine now has 183 points in this year's title chase with a lead of 32 – an unbeatable advantage going into the final round in Bahrain. The victory in China went to Will Stevens, Alex Brundle and Roman Rusinov for G-Drive Racing.
