MEDIA ADVISORY: Nissan Foundation statement on racial injustice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – "Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality." – Martin Luther King, Jr.

In 1992, the Nissan Foundation was created as a compassionate response to the riots and civil unrest that occurred following the Rodney King trial verdict in Southern California. Since then, our mission has been to support educational programs that promote greater understanding and respect among people with varying racial and cultural backgrounds. Our hearts are with the families of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and other victims of racial injustice, and our mission and resolve to be a part of the solution is as strong as it was in 1992.

We believe that education promotes conversations, conversations enable understanding, and understanding builds community.

We stand with our neighbors of all backgrounds and ethnicities as we begin the work to heal and hope again for a better future.
