Nissan Foundation

The Nissan Foundation builds communities through education.

Fresh off its 30th anniversary, the Nissan Foundation has awarded nearly $16 million to approximately 150 nonprofits since its founding in 1992.

The mission of the Nissan Foundation – to build community by valuing culture diversity - is as relevant today as it was in 1992, when it was founded. Formed in response to the civil unrest that occurred near Nissan North America's then U.S. sales operations in Southern California following the Rodney King trial verdict, the Nissan Foundation has annually awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to nonprofit organizations that support the Foundation's mission.

In June 2023, the Nissan Foundation announced that for the first time it is awarding more than $1 million during its annual grant cycle. It is awarding $1.2 million to 39 nonprofits that share and celebrate diverse cultural perspectives, experiences and voices to communities across the country. The grant recipients are based in communities surrounding Nissan facilities in Southern California, Middle Tennessee, Central Mississippi, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Southeast Michigan, New York City and Atlanta. The 2023 grantees include museums, public television stations, libraries and other nonprofits promoting the many benefits that diversity brings to society.
