Fun, exhilarating, peaceful: New Nissan LEAF ad campaign delivers the emotional connection of driving the best-selling electric vehicle of all time

Nissan launches Freedom to Move ad campaign

  • Freedom to Move campaign celebrates the tech advanced Nissan LEAF, the best-selling electric vehicle of all time1
  • Campaign focuses on the emotional experience of driving the company’s new 2019 LEAF Plus which comes with a range of up to 226 mile2
  • This is not acting – the new LEAF ad features Roberta Mancino, an accomplished professional wingsuit flyer, in air and behind the wheel of the LEAF Plus

NASHVILLE – Emotions defy gravity in Nissan’s latest ad campaign featuring the Nissan LEAF and pro wingsuit flyer Roberta Mancino. Although less extreme than weaving through air, EV drivers and wingsuiters alike can find pure exhilaration behind the wheel of the world’s best-selling electric vehicle1.

The new Freedom to Move campaign launched over Memorial Day weekend and features Roberta Mancino, a world record holder professional wingsuit flyer and base jumper with over 10,000 sky dives and 450 base jumps, soaring through the air as well as breezing through traffic behind the wheel of the new extended range LEAF Plus, which offers up to 226 miles of range and more power than ever.

"In the past, a lot of electric vehicle advertising focused on the technology alone and neglected to tell the unique story of how driving an electric car makes you feel," said Allyson Witherspoon, vice president, Marketing Communications and Media, Nissan North America. "We have found that people who experience EV driving really love the quick acceleration, the quiet cabin and all the intelligent technology that make driving less stressful. It really is a joy to drive an EV and few do it better than our best-selling LEAF."

Following television advertising, the LEAF Excites digital series will show how consumers react to Nissan technologies such as one-pedal driving with LEAF ePedal, the driver assist technology ProPILOT Assist and vehicle connectivity through the Nissan Connect App. The vignettes also highlight the confidence that comes with the new LEAF Plus range of up to 226 miles Plus2.

"We want the world to discover the fun and excitement of driving electric. Hopefully the authentic reactions of LEAF drivers will help encourage people to try the unique, electric driving experience and discover the new LEAF Plus," said Witherspoon.

In March, the Nissan LEAF became the first electric car in history to surpass 400,000 sales, solidifying its claim of being the best-selling electric vehicle of all time1. Introduced in 2010, the Nissan LEAF has led the way in making the excitement and convenience of electric driving accessible to non-luxury buyers and was a pioneer in the global shift toward more sustainable mobility.

LEAF is only the first in Nissan’s commitment to EVs and electric driving. As part of the M.O.V.E. 2022 corporate vision, the company has announced it will bring seven new EVs to market globally by 2022.
