Nissan Supports Greening of Detroit

Farmington Hills, Mich. – Nissan Technical Center North America will give the keys of a Nissan Titan truck to The Greening of Detroit at its annual fall tree planting kick-off event on Sept. 22 in Detroit. The Greening of Detroit, an environment-focused not-for-profit, works to create a greener Detroit through planting and educational programs, environmental leadership and advocacy.

"We rely heavily on trucks to move equipment, supplies and materials throughout the City of Detroit in our efforts to promote urban agriculture practices and activities," said Rebecca Salminen Witt, president, Greening of Detroit. "The donated Titan will significantly help us with our initiatives citywide, and all of us here are very appreciative of Nissan's support."

The donated Nissan Titan will be used to support the organization's tree planting initiatives that have resulted in delivering more than 70,000 new trees to parks, schoolyards, along neighborhood streets and major thoroughfares across the City of Detroit since 1989.

"For the future of our planet and generations to come, Nissan is committed to the environment, from reducing the company's environmental impact to providing customers with innovative products that contribute to the development of a sustainable mobile society," said Carla Bailo, senior vice president, research and development, Nissan Americas. "Through the donation of this Nissan Titan, we are pleased to help The Greening of Detroit improve the quality of life in a community where our employees live and work."

The presentation of the Nissan Titan will be made at 9:00 a.m. at the triangle-shaped lot at Braile and Patton streets, near 7250 Braile Street, Detroit, MI 48288. Volunteers helping with the large-scale planting effort will begin their work after the presentation; planting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

About The Greening of Detroit
The Greening of Detroit has served as a leader of neighborhood green space development for two decades, creating sustainable, clean and green environments in Detroit's neighborhoods to benefit those who live, work and have businesses in nearby communities. The agency's work began in 1989, when a group of committed business and community leaders founded The Greening of Detroit and initially focused their efforts on tree planting projects and outreach programming. The Greening's role expanded rapidly to meet the growing needs of the community, including extensive education programming, open space planning, urban gardening, technical assistance, and environmental advocacy.
