Nissan’s Matthew Overbay joins Automotive News Rising Star roster

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Matthew Overbay, director, manufacturing strategy and planning office, Nissan North America, is named a 2023 Automotive News Rising Star.

In his current role, Overbay leads the implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies, capital investment and workforce development to support the company's long-term vision, Nissan Ambition 2030, which is focused on electrification and technology innovation. His efforts in workforce development, specifically, are anchored in joining people and advanced technology together to drive innovation.

Overbay has more than 20 years of experience in global manufacturing and advanced technology. Since joining Nissan in 2011, he's earned roles of increasing responsibility throughout Nissan's manufacturing operations, which include three facilities and more than 15,000 employees in Tennessee and Mississippi.

Overbay holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Tennessee – Knoxville, and a master of business administration from Vanderbilt University – Owen Graduate School of Management.

The Automotive News "Rising Stars: Automakers and Suppliers" program honors U.S.-based auto executives, under the age of 45, on the manufacturing and supply side of the auto industry who have the talent and dedication necessary to become industry leaders of tomorrow. Automotive News has published its list of the industry's up-and-comers annually since 2014.
