1997 Nissan Frontier Press Kit: Overview

As one of the best values on the market today, 1997 Nissan Trucks maintain their competitive edge as rugged and dependable vehicles, while offering a car-like ride and numerous safety features.

"Nissan Trucks continue to be a versatile vehicle for consumers seeking the utility of a truck paired with the comfort and amenities of a car," said Thomas H. Eastwood, vice president, Nissan Division. "Our biggest news for 1997 is the popular XE Value Truck Package available at no added charge. The Value Truck Package, presently priced at $995 includes many popular features such as CFC-free air conditioning, AM/FM cassette stereo and aluminum-alloy wheels, all at no added charge."

This year's lineup includes four 4x2 models -- Standard, XE Regular Cab, XE King Cab and SE King Cab. Completing the lineup are three 4x4 models -- XE Regular Cab, XE King Cab and the well-equipped SE King Cab.

Engine/Suspension/Body Structure

Providing power for Nissan Trucks is a 2.4-liter SOHC 12-valve 4-cylinder engine which produces 134 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 154 lbs-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. The proven powertrain maximizes low-end torque for energetic off-road performance and worry-free daily driving. Capably designed for recreational and utility use, Nissan Trucks have a 3,500 lbs. towing capacity and a payload capacity of 1,400 lbs.

Standard on all models is a refined 5-speed manual overdrive transmission. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional on the 4x2 XE Regular Cab, 4x2 XE King Cab and 4x2 SE King Cab.

Complementing the rugged driveline is an independent front strut suspension with torsion bar springs and 23.0 mm stabilizer bar, and a solid rear axle with leaf spring suspension at the rear. This sturdy combination gives Nissan Truck a smooth, car-like feel, while giving it the ability to conquer the most challenging off-road terrain.

Safety Features
Nissan has installed numerous safety features for driver and passenger protection. Along with a standard driver air bag and an energy-absorbing steering column, Nissan Trucks are constructed with steel side-door guard beams to help reduce the risk of injury in side-impact collisions.

For added safety, all Nissan Trucks are equipped with a standard rear-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) for controlled braking to help prevent wheel lock-up. Power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes provide fade-resistant stops.

Standard Features/Optional Features and Packages
For drivers who want capable utility without sacrificing style, XE Regular Cab and King Cab models have a long list of standard comfort and convenience features. Included are: double-wall cargo box; reclining front bucket seats; a new center console with dual cupholders; fold-down rear jump seats; power steering; sliding rear window; manual-locking front hubs and a useful passenger-side convex mirror.

Nissan's best-equipped, and most luxurious truck is the SE King Cab, which is equipped with comfort and convenience features not found on XE models including: reclining six-way luxury cloth sport seats with lumbar support; CFC-free air conditioning; power door locks and windows; dual power remote-controlled outside mirrors; flip-up glass sunroof; AM/FM cassette 100-watt four speaker stereo; cruise control with steering-wheel-mounted controls; and privacy glass.
