Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, sales and export figures for January, 2011.
1. Production
Nissan's global production in January increased 21.9% year-on-year to 375,178 units, marking an all-time record for the month of January.
Production in Japan decreased 5.9% year-on-year to 81,851 units, due to the termination of the government subsidy program for environmentally-friendly vehicles, despite increased demand for export models.
Production outside of Japan saw an increase of 32.8% year-on-year to 293,327 units, marking an all-time record for a single month.
In the U.S., production increased 9.4% year-on-year to 43,242 units, mainly due to increased demand for Altima and Pathfinder.
In Mexico, production increased 35.2% year-on-year to 51,398 units, due to increased demand for all models led by Sentra and Tiida.
In the U.K., production increased 12.7% year-on-year to 39,310 units, due to increased demand for the new Juke and Qashqai.
In Spain, production saw a significant increase of 103.6% year-on-year to 11,897 units, mainly due to increased demand for Primastar and NV200.
In China, production increased 34.4% year-on-year to 107,452 units, due to increased demand for the new Sunny. This not only marks an all-time monthly production record but also is the first time production in a single month exceeded 100,000 units.
Production in other regions were up 77.0% year-on-year to 40,028 units, with a large contribution from Thailand and India, where the new March/Micra is produced.
2. Sales
Global sales increased 15.0% year-on-year to 357,238 units, marking an all-time record for the month of January.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 40,913 units in Japan, down 16.7% year-on-year.
In Japan, vehicle registrations in January decreased 23.6% year-on-year to 29,215 units. Despite positive sales results of the new Elgrand launched in August, the new March launched in July and the Juke launched in June, the termination of the government subsidy program for environmentally-friendly vehicles impacted overall sales figures.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 7.9% from the previous year to 11,698 units, due to increased demand for Moco and Roox.
Sales outside of Japan increased 20.9% year-on-year to 316,325 units, marking an all-time record for the month of January.
Sales in the U.S. increased 14.8% year-on-year to 71,847 units, as the demand increased for Rogue, Versa and the new Juke, which was launched in October.
In Europe, sales increased 12.8% year-on-year to 47,834 units, mainly due to increased demand in Russia.
In China, sales saw an increase of 32.6% year-on-year to 113,042 units. High demand for the new Sunny introduced in January and Teana contributed in marking an all-time record for a single month, exceeding 100,000 units for the first time.
Sales in other regions increased 22.7% year-on-year to 62,656 units, mainly due to increased demand in Thailand, Indonesia and India, where the new March/Micra was launched.
3. Japan Exports
Nissan's exports in January increased 34.2% year-on-year to 47,954 units.
Exports to North America increased 77.9% year-on-year to 27,118 units, due to increased demand for the new Juke and Rogue.
Exports to Europe increased 70.4% year-on-year to 6,254 units, due to increased demand for models targeting the Russian market.
