The 2011 Nissan Lineup: Charting the Changes

The arrival of the 100% electric 2011 Nissan LEAF ushers in a new era for Nissan and a new era for mobility. As a pure electric vehicle designed for affordability and real-world requirements, LEAF stands to be as much of a milestone vehicle for Nissan as the original Datsun 510, 240Z or Hardbody compact pickup -- vehicles that changed the course of their respective segments.

Yet LEAF is not the only important, all-new model arriving at Nissan showrooms in 2011. First up is the dramatic new Nissan JUKE sport cross, featuring bold, motorsports-influenced styling inside and out -- plus the first North American application of Nissan's new 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) Turbo engine and advanced torque vectoring AWD system. JUKE will be available in fall 2010.

Then in early 2011, the stylish Nissan Quest mini-van arrives -- re-thought, re-imagined and re-energized. And finally, the 2011 calendar year sees Nissan's entry into the commercial vehicle market, starting with the 2012 Nissan NV.

The 2011 model year is also the 25th anniversary year for another iconic Nissan, the groundbreaking Nissan Pathfinder SUV -- an event celebrated with a special 25th Anniversary Edition model. And, there are important enhancements to many other 2011 Nissan models. Following is a brief overview of the changes, refinements and enhancements to the complete 2011 Nissan lineup. Full information and specifications on each vehicle will be available, as always, closer to each model's on-sale date.

THE NEWEST NISSANS

2011 Nissan LEAF
Slated for launch in late 2010 in Japan, the United States, and Europe, Nissan LEAF is the embodiment of Nissan's radical, transformative vision for the future and the culmination of decades of investment and research. Key characteristics of the LEAF include:

  • Zero-emission powertrain and platform
  • Affordable pricing
  • Distinctive design
  • Real-world range autonomy -- up to 100 miles
  • Connected Mobility: Advanced intelligent transportation (IT) system

2011 Nissan JUKE
Distinctive, independent, adaptive and confident. Unlike traditional entries in the fast-growing compact hatchback/crossover market today, the all-new 2011 Nissan JUKE offers bold styling, unexpected levels of performance and an available advanced torque vectoring AWD system with performance technology usually reserved for premium vehicles.

JUKE's aggressive styling brings a breath of fresh air to the segment. Built on Nissan's proven global B-platform, JUKE looks exactly like it drives -- fun, bold and exciting. The JUKE interior is equally aggressive with bolstered front seats, a wide instrument panel and a unique center console inspired by a motorcycle fuel tank and finished in a high-gloss paint.

Powering JUKE is a standard 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) Turbo, 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 180+ horsepower and 170+ lb-ft of torque. The engine, the first application in North America, combines energetic performance and good fuel economy. JUKE's available torque vectoring AWD system splits torque up to 50:50 between the front and rear wheels and can also can split torque from side-to-side across the rear axle. When cornering, the system helps reduce understeer and enhance the vehicle?s cornering feel.

Another new-to-Nissan technology debuting on JUKE is the innovative Integrated Control (I-CON) system. It combines control of the automatic A/C and the three-mode drive selector -- Normal for everyday driving, Sport for a more intense performance feel and Eco for maximum efficiency, adjusting throttle, transmission (CVT) and steering feel for the precise ride the driver desires.

2011 Nissan Quest
After a brief absence from the lineup, the Nissan Quest minivan returns to showrooms in early 2011. The next-generation Nissan Quest is designed to present a new paradigm in family mobility.

Along with top levels of quality and reliability, the all-new design is a fusion of sophistication, security and thoughtful utility for both families and empty nesters alike. The new Quest will be the ideal vehicle for buyers needing the size, safety, functionality and comfort that a minivan has to offer, without sacrificing style or driving pleasure.

More details on the all-new Nissan Quest will be available closer to its launch.

Nissan NV2500
The new Nissan NV (Nissan Van) marks Nissan's first entry into the commercial vehicle market in North America. Scheduled to launch in mid-2011 as a 2012 model, the Nissan NV will be available in three versions, NV1500, NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD, and in two roof configurations -- Standard Roof and High Roof. The NV is the first High Roof commercial van to offer rugged body-on-frame construction. High Roof models allow most users to walk and stand in the cargo area. Powering the rear-wheel drive Nissan NV will be a choice of two powerful yet fuel-efficient engines -- a 4.0-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8. Both will be mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission.

More information on the Nissan NV is available at http://www.nissancommercialvehicles.com/

2011 NISSAN SPORTS CARS
Nissan's potent sports car lineup continues in 2011 to offer a range of four dynamic, authentic driving machines -- the award-winning Nissan GT-R, the stunning 370Z Coupe, the NISMO 370Z and the open-air 370Z Roadster. This veritable "fantastic four" of affordable, high-performance sports cars receives a number of enhancements for the 2011 model year. Details on each vehicle follow.

2011 Nissan GT-R
Now in its third year of availability in the North American market, the Nissan GT-R enters the 2011 model year with a number of enhancements and a simplified model lineup. The previous GT-R base model has been eliminated, leaving the GT-R Premium as the only available 2011 model.

Other changes include slightly darker wheel center caps, double clearcoat on the front and rear fascias and the addition of rear cooling ducts to improve cooling performance around the rear floor area. The suspension has been retuned and the rear bushing strengthened to enhance ride comfort while still maintaining the GT-R's outstanding handling. The navigation system now includes XM NavTraffic and NavWeather capability (XM subscription required, sold separately).

The 2011 Nissan GT-R is once again anchored by a 485-horsepower 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine matched with a high-performance 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. GT-R is built on an exclusive Premium Midship platform, which enables the use of the world's first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. This system places the transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle, optimizing weight distribution and maximizing handling capability.

The GT-R suspension is a special Bilstein DampTronic system, and the braking system consists of Brembo full-floating drilled rotors, low steel high stiffness brake pads and Brembo monoblock six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers. Tires are nitrogen-filled high-performance summer run flat or optional high-performance all-season tires on exclusive GT-R 20-inch wheels.

The 2011 Nissan GT-R is available now through approximately 650 official "GT-R certified" Nissan dealers across the United States. The names and locations of local GT-R Certified Nissan dealers are available to consumers on NissanUSA.com.

As in previous years, the Altima Coupe's unique exterior design is intended to appeal to customers seeking a more personal expression of individuality and fashionable appearance. Its magnetic, perfectly proportioned styling -- with a shorter wheelbase, shorter overall length and lower height than the Altima Sedan -- and lighter overall weight contribute to the Coupe's sportier driving feel -- a desired attribute of the typically younger, more performance-oriented coupe buyer.

2011 Nissan Pathfinder
When the original Nissan Pathfinder was introduced in 1986, it essentially created a new class of sport utility vehicle -- authentic, rugged yet civilized enough for everyday use and family adventures. Now, 25 years later, Pathfinder remains in a class of its own -- still authentic, still offering first-class style and surroundings and still a great value.

Nissan is celebrating the milestone with the introduction of a new 2011 Pathfinder Silver Edition model, which comes complete with special features and equipment including 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels, body-color side moldings with chrome inserts, Bose audio system with CD6 and 10 speakers, XM Satellite Radio (XM subscription required, sold separately), Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, Nissan Intelligent Key, 4-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors, leather-appointed interior and Silver Edition badging. The Silver Edition is offered with V6 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and a choice of 4x2 or 4x4.

In addition to the new Silver Edition, the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder is available in four other models: Pathfinder S V6 (4x2 and 4x4), Pathfinder SE V6 (4x2 and 4x4), Pathfinder LE V6 (4x2 and 4x4) and Pathfinder LE V8 (4x4 only).

Pathfinder's 5.6-liter DOHC V8 engine is rated at 310 horsepower and 388 lb-ft of torque, which helps it to achieve 7,000 lbs of maximum towing capacity. Pathfinder's proven 4.0-liter V6 offers 266 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque. All Pathfinders continue to be built on a high-strength, fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the full-size Nissan Armada SUV.

Unlike the original 1986 model, Pathfinder now offers three-row seating for seven. The refined interior offers a range of amenities, including available leather-appointed seating, heated steering wheel, Nissan Intelligent Key with twist start, Nissan Navigation System with 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive, Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, XM Satellite Radio (XM subscription required, sold separately) and RearView Monitor.

The 2011 Nissan Pathfinder is scheduled to go on sale in September 2010.
